Concept test (Paper Prototyping)
The ideal time to test software, or a product or website with the end user is during the development or concept phase. The faster a concept is tested with the target group, the sooner important issues can be identified and resolved. During the development phase the time that is needed for the adjustments is relatively small and thus the costs relatively low.
Working method
The working method during a concept test is mainly identical to the working method of a usability test with participants. The most important difference is the timing of the testing during the development phase and the material that is tested.
A concept test is often called a Paper Prototype Test. However, it is not necessary to test from paper. A concept test can also be conducted from:
- A clickable prototype
- A wire frame
- Proposal on paper
- Photoshop screens
- An interaction design
- A HTML demo
- A clickable PowerPoint or Visio presentation
2C can help with the construction of an interaction design or clickable prototype based on the user’s needs.
When
During the design of a new or renewed site or software, we can test ideas or concepts with the target group. Because of this, fundamental failures or flaws will be identified in time and can therefore be solved more easily and with less expense.
A concept test is not as suitable for discovering the market opportunities of a concept, or to find out if the idea meets the needs of the target group. For this kind of research, 2C advises a focus group session.
Research time & deliverables
The research time of a concept test is 2.5 weeks, from the moment the participants are recruited until the delivery of the report. The report consists of observations of the research, together with practical suggestions to solve the identified usability problems.
More information?
You can always request for a proposal if you are interested in a usability test. 2C will contact you to discuss the possibilities without obligation. You can also contact us directly.
